Collaborations

Grids are about collaboration. No one builds a Grid just on its own, but to solve an complex problem together with other organisations - like distributed members of a scientific communities or engineering companies building a high technology product.  So talking about Grids is talking about collaboration.

The goal of the g-Eclipse project is to enable many institution and humans to come together and use existing Grid infrastructures or manage them. Therefore it is very natural that the g-Eclipse project will collaborate with other projects or consortia.

  • Eclipse foundation:
From the very beginning, the g-Eclipse project will concentrate on the development of sustainable software. Therefore, all developments will be based on the Eclipse framework.  This framework is Open Source and managed by a non-profit organisation. Many software companies join the Eclipse foundation and donate code to the framework. But the Eclipse foundation is more than just a repository. It contains a well managed process for new projects to join and contribute as well. The g-Eclipse project aims to get accepted as an official Eclipse project to obtain support for the software in terms of repositories, build machines, bug trackers, etc.

  • Infrastructure:
g-Eclipse wants to ease the access to existing Grid infrastructures. The general architecture will be supported exemplarily for the gLite middlewere. Therefore g-Eclipse will collaborate with the projects int.eu.grid and EGEE. These projects are funded by the F3 unit of the IST department of the EC.

  • Grid technology:
The development in the Grid domain is ongoing with a big momentum. This is demonstrated in a big number of interesting projects funded in Europe and worldwide. The g-Eclipse framework will benefit from the latest development of Grid technology as these developments can be integrated in the g-Eclipse software stack. Therefore the g-Eclipse project will participate in the collaboration tasks managed by all EC funded projects of the F2 unit of the IST department. More information about the projects and the collaboration tasks can be found here

  • ECSS - European Community for Software & Software Services – Architectures, Infrastructures, Engineering
The project 3S will support the goals of the IST Priority in developing a Joint European White Paper for R&D and Industry in the Service and Software Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering field. The aim is to push the involvement of the EU to a competitive position worldwide by identifying strategies and technologies that will facilitate future developments and reduce fragmentation. With the creation of ECSS (European Community for Software & Software Services – Architectures, Infrastructures, Engineering) 3S establishes a platform for networking and knowledge transfer between the relevant scientific and industrial communities and for jointly pursuing the interests of the stakeholders in the field of IST.

  • Events:
The g-Eclipse project will participate in and promote events related to Grid technology and Eclipse technology.  See a list of events on the subpage "Events".
